The Curricularization of Extension
a necessary knowledge for the university routine [Interview given to] Francilda Alcantara Mendes
Abstract
It portrays extension as a promoter of the connection between higher education and its technical knowledge to the knowledge present in society and its various sectors. It highlights the importance of extension in academic training, bringing social aspects to science, technologies, arts and philosophy. It exposes the inclusion of extension in the curriculum as a method of promoting extension within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), a means of integrating the inseparable pillars of universities (research, teaching and extension), constitutional precepts of the purposes of higher education. It presents the process of curricularization as challenging, portraying it as a paradigm shift that was once based on the teacher-student-knowledge relationship, is now portrayed as teacher-student-knowledge-community. He describes the experience as president of the Forum of Pro-Rectors of Extension of Brazilian Public Institutions of Higher Education (FORPROEX), as challenging, because in addition to practical execution, there is a theoretical and conceptual construction about extension. It concludes by describing strategic methodologies for curriculating extension in Brazil.
