RETHINKING PUBLIC POLICIES

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the results presented by the Global Peace Index (GPI) report on Brazil and Portugal, formulating contributions for a reflection on new public policies in areas that the Index demonstrates that greater attention is needed, especially in regarding the promotion of Positive Peace. Particularly, the results of Portugal and Brazil were studied in more detail and we created a dialogical and reflexive space on some experiences, from the focus of the promotion of Global Peace. The study adopted the paradigm of qualitative research and assumed the exploratory style. We also seek to follow an ethnographic inspiration along with the analysis of the results of a bibliographical survey. The research was carried out in the first half of 2019 and as the fruit of a training course linked to the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon. The results indicate the need to make the instrument more widely known to increase its contribution to the design of new Public Policies closer to the Positive Peace framework. We believe in its potency and hope that our work contributes, in part, to its greater dissemination.
