Abstract
It presents the historical and research trajectory of the research group Competency and Mediation in Information Environments (CMAI) at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). In methodological terms, this is an experience report carried out with the support of the intellectual memory of CMAI data, inserted in the Directory of Research Groups of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (DGP/CNPq). The results demonstrate that the members of the group have been strongly active with scientific publications in periodicals considered to be of quality, as well as promoting actions with an impact on society, such as the project 'Maré da (Des)Informação - What I have to do with it '. It is concluded that the role of a research group focuses on providing the necessary support for the academic and intellectual growth of its members, also seeking to benefit society in general.
