Memory and identity of the rural community of Sítio Serra da Minguiriba – Crato – CE

Abstract

This research deals with the organization and representation of the history of the remnant of a group of Roman Catholic pilgrims sent by Father Cícero Romão Batista who settled on the Araripe plateau around 1904 and formed a community. Its general purpose is to contribute to the valorization of the memories and identity of the rural communinity of the Sítio Serra da Minguiriba through a survey of oral and visual records produced by the community. It proposes as specific objectives to investigate the practices of elderly; to identify the collection of religious practices present in local daily life, based on oral, written and visual reports of living witnesses; to register some identity aspects and to record the Minguiriba community memories in a filmed documentary as the final product of the research. This study raises the following central question: What is the collection of experiences and knowledge mobilized in the rural universe of the Minguiriba community - Araripe National Forest - Crato - CE - Brazil, regarding the manifestations presents in the traditions of religious festivals? This research is descriptive, based on bibliographical and documentary methodology. As a result, we developed an audiovisual work, under the Methodology of Oral History, using images and oral testimonies of the residents of this community about their religious festivals.
