Informational resilience of Brazilian immigrant women in Portugal
collaborative informational practices in the face of Covid-19
Abstract
Based on a correlation between the themes of Migration, Informational Practices, Misinformation and Informational Resilience in digital social networks, this article aims to analyze how the strategies adopted by a group of Brazilian immigrant women in Portugal contributed to overcoming informational barriers, facing disinformation and building information resilience in the context of Covid-19. It stems from a qualitative research based on the thematic analysis of informational practices managed by a group of migrant women who, facing the context of social distancing caused by the pandemic, organized a solidarity network on the WhatsApp platform linked to the collective “Plataforma Geni”. As a result, it finds that the state of informational uncertainty experienced in situations of rupture with normality, resulting from COVID-19, together with the perceived misinformation and informational barriers in digital social networks, move individuals to new connectivity in the search for collaborative solutions. This movement is capable of building new informational competences in the context of risk and informational transition, building perspectives of information literacy and social cohesion negotiated in an emergent and collaborative way.
