Reading mediation in public libraries

Abstract

It addresses reading within the public library, more specifically the proposal of reading groups in order to boost the collection and encourage reading. The problem is based on the following question: how is it possible to build a group for reading mediation in the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará? The general objective is: to approach the practices of mediation of reading in public libraries, aiming at the proposal to create a Reading Group for the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte, through strategies of dynamization and digital technologies, using as prototype the Reading Group Ciranda de Livros da Livraria Nobel Cariri. The specific objectives are: to identify the potentialities of mediation of reading in the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte, in order to favor the creation of a reading group as a mechanism to stimulate reading and readers; verify the reading levels of the users of the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte; to understand how the mediation practices of reading in the Juazeiro do Norte Public Library occur and to propose the creation of a reading group for the community of users of the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte. The methodology is characterized as descriptive and exploratory objectives, as for the technical procedures in bibliographical, as for the analysis it is a qualitative research and had as instrument a structured questionnaire for data collection. Finally, in proposing the creation of a Reading Group for the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte, we will make this information more dynamic, stimulating and enhancing reading and readership.
