Abstract

Research groups are seemed as a community composed by professors, students and/or technicians who mobilize around a line of research to explore scientifically. In the context of the Brazilian university, the mission is to establish itself in the promotion of pluriversity knowledge, which runs in favor of solidarity between citizens, peace and social justice. In the context of public universities, research groups seek to develop such a mission from initiatives not only in the sphere of research, but also of the other elements of the university triad: teaching and extension. The text presents the social context, activities and future perspectives of the Research Group Information Literacy and Mediation – Competência em Informação e Mediação to Portuguese language. This is a research group that seeks to develop activities to promote information literacy. In order to carry out the task, in the text seeks: a) to present the movement of information literacy and its current trends in the scientific context of Brazil; b) to Insert the movement of information in the environment of the northern region of Brazil and, especially, in the state of Rondônia; c) to characterize of the research group, regarding the historical context of the foundation, developed and glimpses of a near future.
