Abstract

Different means of presenting the water quality for the purposes of better management and understanding of the aquatic bodies dynamics confronting with the activities have been used. The Water Quality Index (WQI) proposed by NSF stands out internationally in terms of quality relation and changes in sanitary conditions, considering nine parameters with theis respective weights. The objective of this manuscript of to verify the correlation between the WQI variations and the physical parameters (Condutictivity and Color) and chemical parameters (Chlorophyll a and Chlorides). SEMACE monitoring data from nine points of the Salgado Hydrographic Basin were used for the years 2017 (April) and 2018 (March). The WQI showed to be sensitive to the observed quality conditions, taking into consideration that in the most urbanized áreas the index reaches the “poor” classifications category. The color obtainad greater variation between the parameters and a weak correlation with the IQA. The strongest correlation was found for the Chlorides parameter, being negative and representing na inversely proportional relation between the values.
