Mediation in the School Library Context
proposal of a manual for private schools in Crato and Juazeiro do Norte in the Cariri region
Abstract
It approaches conceptions about mediation of information, culture and reading in the context of the school library. Reflecting the importance of this space for the construction of knowledge, as well as the relevance of the role of the librarian as mediator. In this way, the problem of the study is based on the following question: how to structure strategies for mediation of information, culture and reading in the ambit of the private school libraries of the cities of Crato and Juazeiro do Norte in the Cariri region? It presents as general objective: To investigate the reality of the performance of libraries of private schools in the cities of Crato and Juazeiro do Norte, aiming to propose a set of strategies in the scope of information, culture and reading mediation. The specific objectives are: to reflect on theoretical-practical perspectives and mediation characteristics applied to the school library; carry out a survey of the private primary and secondary school libraries that make up the cities of Crato and Juazeiro do Norte in the Cariri region; identify and analyze the practices mediation of information, culture and reading of the private school libraries of the cities of Crato and Juazeiro do Norte. The methodology is based on a bibliographical review, to give a theoretical basis, characterizing itself as a descriptive study. With qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data collection was done by means of questionnaires, constituting the subjects of the research, librarian and/or librarian and a school manager of the private network. From the results and discussions, it was possible to identify the reality of the school libraries of the cities of Crato and Juazeiro do Norte. It was noticed that there is still resistance in the hiring of librarians, valuation and recognition of the school library as an important space for the educational context. It was concluded that the school library still has much to gain and ascend. For this, it is sine qua non the presence of the librarian, his recognition and appreciation in society and especially in the school. The manual sought to promote strategies for the school library through the mediation of information, reading and culture. In this way, schools are expected to appropriate this material, and production, communication, and especially the use of information can be facilitated, providing good results for libraries and users.
