Abstract
The mediation of information has a fundamental role in the librarian's interaction with the user in the information acquisition process. In the organization of knowledge context, mediation is found in the context of production and use of information, in the description, analysis and representation of contents. The present research is justified considering the importance of the organization of knowledge in the domain of information mediation. With this in mind, the general objective is to discuss the concept of information mediation in the knowledge organization literature through the journals of the International Society for Knowledge Organization. To this end, the following specific objectives were established: a) to structure the documentary corpus based on the journals of the International Society for Knowledge Organization; b) create sheets to support the analysis of the mediation concept from the articles retrieved; c) describe inferences and interpretations about the concept of mediation. The methodology chosen to be applied in this research was content analysis based on the article by Brascher and Café (2010). 32 articles were retrieved for the composition of the documentary corpus. It is concluded that the organization of knowledge is the previous step towards mediation; that is, without the organization of documents and the construction of a mediating plan with specialized language, it is not possible to have information mediation.
