The mediation of information by the teacher for students in the early years in a school library environment

Abstract

The mediation of information, in the school environment, especially in the early years, is carried out by the teacher, because, although municipal schools have the physical space of the library, they do not have professionals to perform the function of librarian. In order to understand how students in this age group deal with the most diverse information around them and what the teacher's role is as a mediator of information, the proposition is to know the informational behavior of students and the informational mediation process of students in initials, from the teacher's perspective, as an information mediator, with the objective of elaborating a proposal for the development of information mediation activity by the teacher in a school library environment. For this, a theoretical study was carried out on informational behavior and information mediation and an explanatory study on the process and the informational mediation agent of the municipal education network of Marília, in the early years. In the field of information mediation, there is a significant paradigm shift, which, before, was focused on the system and, today, is more focused on the user, their needs and uses of information, that is, focused on people, their information behavior. Reflections on mediation in the school context suggest that the teacher, the librarian and the school library play a fundamental role, contributing positively to the student's cognitive development.
