Informational practices in Reading Clubs

Abstract

This article reports the participant observation in three different reading clubs from the perspective of information practices studies. This is qualitative research and as a data collection technique, the participant observation of the reading clubs was adopted: Clube do Livro BH, Clube do Livro de Ribeirão das Neves and Leia Mulheres BH. An ethnographic approach was chosen, with the aim of making possible an immersion in the meetings of the reading clubs. The research assumption is the idea that the dynamics of information sharing in these clubs is presented in a very rich way, since it implies in previous readings of books and in several exchanges of information during the meetings. Thus, the relationships between the subject and the information are complex and permeated by several processes such as: reading, appropriation and interpretation of information, sharing reading experiences, exchanging information and informal interactions/conversations with other readers. With the investigation from the perspective of studies of informational practices, the importance of social interaction and context for promoting mediation, sharing readings and informational exchanges in the construction of meaning, meaning and collective knowledge becomes evident.
