Extension as a transforming power of society
overflowing knowledge and practices
Abstract
This work proposes a reflection on the new ways of being at the university, thinking about extension as a transforming power of society. The idea of a university that acts in a collaborative way is approached, recognizing the importance of knowledge and actions arising from the community, in a dialogical way and in constant movements. In this perspective, a brief historical journey of extension in Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) is presented, considering national legislation and guidelines. Next, some examples of extension actions developed within the scope of the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP) are presented with the aim of illustrating the discussion. Finally, the importance of extension is emphasized to strengthen our hope that it is possible to teach and learn in the public school context
