Weaving Sustainable
Exploring Sustainability and Textile Engineering in Environmental Education
Abstract
The textile industry represents one of the largest contributors to waste generation on a global scale, with a significant amount of waste being generated at all stages of its production chain. However, these wastes have the potential to be reused and transformed into new materials for different purposes. This project aims to use this waste as a tool for environmental education and to apply sustainability concepts. Its main objective is to disseminate and apply sustainability principles through understanding the textile chain, its waste and its possible alternative applications. By analyzing opportunities for the development of new products, the project encourages the exchange of knowledge between participants, in addition to promoting a broader view of the economic and sustainable dimensions that permeate this global market. This collaborative and educational approach aims to not only mitigate the environmental impacts of the textile industry, but also promote a culture of awareness and sustainable action.
