Abstract

This study aims to discuss the relations between educational practices and heritage education understood as a fundamental element in the process of valuing and protecting the material and immaterial goods of a community. It is understood, through the bibliographic review developed during this study, that the discussions about Cultural Heritage in the school environment make it possible to create in the subjects' mindsets the ideas of belonging into a community, memory, and history, spreading through the processes of appropriation by students of culture. In this way of thinking, this study was developed from the mapping of activities around patrimonial education developed by high schools in Juazeiro do Norte city. Using a qualitative approach that unfolds in the exploratory phases (bibliographic research), fieldwork (visiting schools, guided by questions about actions/activities developed about heritage education), and documental analysis (crossing collected information in the previous phases). Given the exposed fact during this study, it is possible to consider the need to think about ways of inserting such discussions in their daily practices, since of the eight schools analyzed, only three have actions carried out continuously through elective courses. Experiences reveal that heritage education understood as a fundamental element in the development of bonds between students and the cultural heritage of their environment (s) is not characterized as a reality in the educational practices of formal education in the investigated locus.
