Sensory memory workshop with eldery
experience report
Abstract
The fear of the aging process being accompanied by brain dysfunctions that may affect the memory and the loss of autonomy of individuals is a recurrent complaint in the field of gerontology. The interest shown by a group of elderly people, members of the Age Active Coexistence Group, for the process of memory construction encouraged the authors to seek innovative methods of approach and treat the subject through the ludic, aiming to meet the interest of the elderly about memory and reinforce the importance of cognitive stimulation. The theme was worked in one of the meetings of the Memory Workshop from the creation of a game called "Sensory Circuit". The challenges proposed by the playful competition allowed the player to test the five senses and also reflect on the process of construction and access to individual memory. The experience enabled the deconstruction of some misconceptions about aging and memory loss, besides reinforcing the value of cultural-cognitive stimulation activities.
