A Extension at UFRN in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic
the university fulfilling its social function
Abstract
The pandemic that imposed itself on the world in 2020, posed itself as a challenge to different sectors and public and private institutions. Within universities, extension more than ever needed to reinvent itself to continue promoting the relationship between university and society, and to contribute in some way to mitigate the consequences of a pandemic unprecedented in contemporary history. Based on this, the present article aims to analyze the thematic and territorial reach and present the extension actions that were or are being developed at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), which contribute to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. For this, it was used bibliographical and documentary review, research of primary and secondary data, in addition to cartographic production. The analysis of the extension projects developed in this context, showed a consistent and diverse production, showing that the university has not stopped its extension activities in the face of the challenges of the pandemic, contributing to society in different ways, reinforcing its social commitment, especially at this time critical and uncertainty.
