Promoting youth protagonism in rural contexts
the performance of the Social Management in Schools Project’s in the Baixio das Palmeiras district
Abstract
For 11 years, the Social Management in Schools project has been developing educational actions aimed at developing youth leadership and social skills that are in line with the principles of Social Management, such as cooperation, autonomy and the exercise of speech. Over the last few years, the project has focused on a rural area, from a socio-environmental perspective of the students' relationship with their place. This study aims to report the experience of the Social Management Project in Schools in promoting actions to promote youth protagonism in the rural district Baixio das Palmeiras, located in the city of Crato, Ceará, in 2019. Based on the experiences carried out, the direct involvement of young people and the school community in the activities promoted, based on the framework of integrative methodologies. As a result of the actions carried out, it was possible to enhance the sense of cooperation and the active and autonomous engagement of young people in propositions aimed at relevant socio-environmental impacts in their relationship with the territory they live in. It is concluded that the project revealed the potential and protagonism of the rural youth assisted by them, who, at the end of the actions carried out, outlined intervention strategies that were consistent with the emerging demands in the school and community.
