University Engagement and Social Commitment
Documentation of the Historical Memory of Ejido Viejo de Santa Úrsula Coapa, in the South of Mexico City, in the Face of Gentrification Processes
Abstract
In this work, we present a university outreach project by the Center for Sociological Studies of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which aims to contribute to the documentation of the historical memory of a neighborhood located in the southern volcanic stone areas of Mexico City, adjacent to the University City that houses the main campus of UNAM, as a tool for participatory action research in response to the processes of reurbanization and gentrification in the area. The objective of the work is to share the experience and methodology for university engagement through research and teaching with the community of Ejido Viejo de Santa Úrsula Coapa, as well as the main results obtained since the creation of the University Social Observatory was proposed in 2016, up to the ongoing projects during 2024, with a post-pandemic perspective.
