Time to act
university as the protagonist of sustainable development
Abstract
By rescuing the discussions on the concept of Sustainable Development (SD), it is observed that humanity has already produced accurate diagnoses about its problems and about the need to incorporate the perspective of sustainability into its solutions. Considering this premise, the article is based on the following question: the model we insist on leading has led to increasingly acute crises in all dimensions, why, then, can not get out of this trap? And the answer is that we need to act, put into practice the DS. And in this sense, institutions need to restructure and lead to change. From an experience report in the university field, the article aims to demonstrate that this is the ideal locus to put sustainability into practice as a political value, transforming the very essence of university activities. The experience report was the chosen method, and from the experiences experienced by the author at the Federal Universities of Cariri and Ceará (UFCA and UFC), it was found that the university can be the protagonist of the DS, and that it is possible to act and transform, creating a learning process that aims not only at professional training, but on social transformation from the collective values of sustainability.
