Environmental education experiences through university extension
Abstract
The main objective of this article is to identify university extension actions related to the sustainability of Centro Universitário Dr. Leão Sampaio through the Social and Environmental Education Program – PEAS. The university extension is a privileged space for practical learning and relationships between the academic environment and the community in which it is inserted. Therefore, PEAS emerged to carry out actions promoting the concepts of sustainability among students, professors and institution with the focus of contributing to the improvement of people's quality of life while training professionals who reflect on this reality in which it becomes necessary to use of the correct forms of occupation of the environment. The study design was based on basic research, with a qualitative approach, using unsystematic observation, field visits and documental research on the corporate website. The results found showed that the main instruments used at Centro Universitário Dr. Leão Sampaio, with a view to sustainable impact, are through its consistent environmental policy, sedimented through PEAS, solar energy park, water and effluent treatment station, recycling guidelines processes, among others. Finally, it seeks to demonstrate that a Higher Education Institution engaged with sustainable practices in university extension and management, results in the training of professionals who think about sustainability in their postures and actions, resulting in a better quality of economic, environmental and social life. in the community in which it is inserted.
