Beer with Science
integrating knowledge
Abstract
The extension project "Beer with Science" from the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) was created in 2019 due to a growing demand around craft beer production. It is directly connected to the discipline of Beer Science and research in the field. The goal of this project is to promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge related to beer production, serving both the academic community and society at large. A network of activities and productions was established, aiming to maximize knowledge construction. Developed were virtual and in-person workshops; live sessions; virtual visits to microbreweries; online study groups. Produced were ebooks; production sheets; bulletins; infographics; videos; a brewery map; and a website. Communication was conducted through social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Twitter, and WhatsApp). Agile methodologies were used for project management via Kanbanflow, Google Drive, and WhatsApp, integrating 7 institutions and 12 collaborators. A good number of accesses to social media and materials were registered, as well as the activities received positive evaluations from participants. Interactions with the community highlighted significant interest and reach of the activities, emphasizing the vital role of public universities in beer education.
