Correction and Retraction of Published Works
The journal EntreAções: diálogos em extensão seeks to maintain the integrity, clarity, and reliability of the content it publishes.
Even after publication, a work may contain errors or problems that need to be communicated to readers. Depending on the nature and severity of the situation, the journal may publish a correction or retract the work.
These measures are intended to correct the published record and properly inform readers. They are not intended as punishment.
 
1. Correction of published works
A correction, also called an erratum, will be used when there is a specific error that does not compromise the main content, the conclusions, or the overall meaning of the work. Examples of situations that may require a correction include:
<ul>
<li>an error in a date, name, number, or information about the extension project;</li>
<li>incorrect institutional information;</li>
<li>a significant typing or formatting error;</li>
<li>a missing or incorrect reference;</li>
<li>incomplete identification of authorship or collaboration;</li>
<li>another isolated error that can be corrected without invalidating the work.</li>
</ul>
The correction will be published as a separate notice, linked to the original work. This notice must state:
<ul>
<li>which information was incorrect;</li>
<li>what the correct information is;</li>
<li>the date of the correction;</li>
<li>who requested or approved the correction, when relevant.</li>
</ul>
To preserve transparency and the publication record, the original file will not be silently replaced. The work will remain available with a visible indication that a correction is associated with it.
The correction must also include a link to the original work, and the work's page must direct readers to the correction notice.
 
2. Retraction of published works
A retraction will be used when serious problems are identified that compromise the reliability, authorship, originality, legality, or ethical integrity of the work. Examples of situations that may lead to retraction include:
<ul>
<li>fabrication or invention of data, activities, results, or testimonials;</li>
<li>falsification or improper alteration of information;</li>
<li>plagiarism;</li>
<li>duplicate publication or improper reuse of previously published content;</li>
<li>improper attribution of authorship;</li>
<li>omission of a person who should be listed as an author;</li>
<li>use of images, statements, names, or other identifiable information without the necessary consent;</li>
<li>conducting research with human subjects without meeting the applicable ethical requirements;</li>
<li>serious copyright infringement;</li>
<li>manipulation of the review process;</li>
<li>an undisclosed, serious conflict of interest;</li>
<li>any other problem that makes the content, or the way it was produced, incompatible with the journal's policies.</li>
</ul>
The retraction may cover the entire work or, when technically feasible and duly justified, only a clearly identified part of it.
 
3. Permanence of the retracted work
As a rule, a retracted work will not be deleted from the journal's website. The file will remain available in order to preserve the editorial record and prevent it from continuing to circulate without an indication that it has been retracted. The page and the file must receive a clear and visible indication of retraction.
The retraction notice must:
<ul>
<li>identify the title and authorship of the work;</li>
<li>objectively explain the reason for the retraction;</li>
<li>state the date of the decision;</li>
<li>indicate whether the retraction was requested by the authors or decided by the journal;</li>
<li>be linked to the retracted work;</li>
<li>remain freely available.</li>
</ul>
The retraction notice must not use offensive, accusatory, or humiliating language. When there is no proof of intent or bad faith, the notice must be limited to the verified facts and the effects of the problem on the work.
Complete removal of the content will be considered only in exceptional situations, such as:
<ul>
<li>a court order;</li>
<li>a serious privacy violation;</li>
<li>a concrete risk to the safety of people or communities;</li>
<li>the presence of illegal content;</li>
<li>improper exposure that cannot be resolved through retraction alone.</li>
</ul>
Even in these cases, whenever possible, a page will remain in place stating that the content was removed and explaining the general reason for the decision.
 
4. Reporting problems
Anyone may report to the journal a possible error or problem related to a published work.

Whenever possible, the message should include:
<ul>
<li>the title of the work;</li>
<li>the problem identified;</li>
<li>the part of the text where the problem appears;</li>
<li>documents, records, or other information that could help with the review.</li>
</ul>
Anonymous reports may be examined, provided they include sufficient information to allow the facts to be verified.
 
5. Review by the editorial team
Upon receiving a report, the editorial team will conduct an initial review to determine whether there are sufficient grounds to open an investigation.
During this process, the journal may:
<ul>
<li>request additional information from the person who made the report;</li>
<li>contact the authors;</li>
<li>consult reviewers or specialists;</li>
<li>request documents, authorizations, or records related to the work;</li>
<li>hear from people or communities directly involved;</li>
<li>consult the Pro-Rectory of Extension of the Universidade Federal do Cariri, when necessary;</li>
<li>refer the matter to other competent units of the University.</li>
</ul>
The authors will be informed of the problem and given the opportunity to provide clarification, except when doing so could put people at risk, compromise the investigation, or conflict with a legal requirement.
 
6. Notice during the investigation
When there is significant evidence of a serious problem but the investigation has not yet been concluded, the journal may temporarily publish a notice stating that the work is under review.
This notice does not represent an early conclusion regarding the existence of an error or irregularity. Its purpose is to inform readers that there are significant concerns about the content.
Once the review is concluded, the notice may be removed, replaced with a correction, or converted into a retraction notice.
 
7. Editorial decision
The decision on whether to correct, retract, or maintain the work will be made by the editorial team based on:
<ul>
<li>the available information;</li>
<li>statements from the people involved;</li>
<li>the severity and extent of the problem;</li>
<li>possible harm to people, communities, or institutions;</li>
<li>the journal's editorial policies;</li>
<li>the rules of the Universidade Federal do Cariri;</li>
<li>good practices in editorial integrity.</li>
</ul>
When necessary, the decision will be made with the support of the Pro-Rectory of Extension of the Universidade Federal do Cariri or other competent institutional units.
Disagreement from the authors does not prevent the publication of a correction or retraction when the editorial team has sufficient grounds for the decision.
 
8. Corrections requested by the authors
Authors must report to the journal any significant error identified after publication.
The voluntary disclosure of an error will be considered part of good editorial integrity practices and will not, by itself, be treated as evidence of misconduct.
The editorial team will assess whether the situation requires:
<ul>
<li>a correction;</li>
<li>an informational update;</li>
<li>a retraction;</li>
<li>no change to the published record.</li>
</ul>
 
9. Updating records
Whenever a correction or retraction occurs, the journal will seek to update the records and metadata under its responsibility, including, where applicable:
<ul>
<li>the work's page;</li>
<li>the issue's table of contents;</li>
<li>the metadata registered in the journal's system;</li>
<li>identification and indexing services;</li>
<li>other environments where the content has been officially disseminated.</li>
</ul>
The correction or retraction notice must remain linked to the work in a clear, accessible, and permanent manner.
