Gender public policies at school
debate and critical reflexion
Abstract
The issue of gender and violence against women, together with social inequality and respect for diversity, are themes that mobilize broad sectors of society. The objective of the article is to present the performance of the subprogram Núcleo de Estudos de Gender and the fight against violence against women in a reference school in the state. The Pernambuco Secretariat of State for Women's gender training program works in the field of formal education at all levels of schooling with the aim of incorporating the discussion of gender in schools and promoting the inflection of the patriarchal culture responsible for inequalities between men and women in society. Based on the experience with the extension project of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, called Observatório da Mulher, whose action consisted of monitoring and evaluating the activities of a group of students, we intend to appreciate the contribution and difficulties encountered in its realization. The qualitative methodology guided the research through field observation and interview techniques. It is important to recognize the affirmative actions of the State in promoting the gender issue in schools, considering that education is a fundamental factor in combating violence against women and in combating violence against the LBTQI+ community. The aforementioned program expands the concept of gender in schools and privileges a pluralist and democratic vision of public school students, in favor of critical reflection and the promotion of equality.
